What This Assessment Measures

Research from Michael Watkins, author of The First 90 Days, finds that transitions are the single most vulnerable moments in a leader's career. The first 90 days set the pattern for everything that follows. Get them right, and momentum carries you through year one. Get them wrong, and you spend the next 18 months climbing out of a hole you dug in weeks.

This assessment measures how well you are handling the five transitions that matter most: how much you are listening before acting, whether you are delivering visible early wins, the depth of your relationships with each team member, how aligned you are with your boss, and how clear your team is on where you are heading.

You will see 15 realistic scenarios. For each, pick the response closest to what you would actually do, not what sounds best. Your results include an overall score (On Track, Mixed Signals, or Survival Mode), a breakdown across all five dimensions, specific advice on the areas where you are drifting, and a curated list of resources matched to your weakest spots.

This assessment takes about 4 minutes. No email address required. It is designed for managers in days 1 to 120 of a new role, whether internal promotion or external hire.

This assessment is a self-reflection tool, not a performance evaluation. It is not a substitute for formal performance feedback, 360 reviews, or conversations with your manager. Treat the results as a prompt to act, not a verdict.
