What This Assessment Measures
Every new manager blames their boss at some point. The meetings are pointless. The priorities change weekly. The feedback is nonexistent. Some of that may be true. But some of it is on you — and this assessment helps you figure out which is which.
This quiz measures five dimensions of "managing up" — the skill of actively shaping the relationship with your boss rather than passively enduring it. Communication Alignment measures whether information flows both ways or just downward. Expectation Clarity measures whether you know what success looks like or you're guessing. Proactive vs Reactive measures whether you anticipate needs or wait to be told. Influence Skills measure whether you can advocate, push back, and present cases. Boundary Management measures whether you protect your time and energy or let your boss consume them.
You will be presented with 15 realistic scenarios and asked how you would respond. Each scenario maps to one of the five dimensions. Your results include an overall score, a breakdown by dimension, personalized insights for each area, and recommended articles based on your weakest dimensions.
A high score does not mean your boss is a great leader. It means you are not doing your part to manage the relationship. The best managers don't just manage down — they manage up, sideways, and everywhere else. This assessment measures the "up" part.
This assessment is designed for self-reflection and personal development. It is not a clinical instrument, a personality test, or a substitute for professional coaching. If you are struggling with management challenges that feel overwhelming, consider working with a leadership coach or mentor.
