What This Assessment Measures
"Am I a good manager?" is the question almost every manager asks and almost nobody can answer, because the two available sources of truth are both broken. Your own feeling about the week measures your stress, not your management. And your team's day-to-day behavior toward you measures whether you are pleasant, not whether you are good. Plenty of well-liked managers are quietly failing their teams, and a fair number of managers who feel like impostors are doing genuinely good work.
What can be measured is behavior. This assessment covers the 5 areas your team actually experiences, whatever your intentions: whether people know what matters most right now (direction), whether they hear the truth about their work while it is still cheap to fix (feedback), whether real work and real decisions leave your desk (delegation), whether bad news reaches you early and opportunities are spread fairly (trust), and whether anyone on your team is measurably more capable than six months ago (growth).
You will see 15 realistic scenarios. Pick the response closest to what you actually do, not what sounds best. Your results include an overall score, a breakdown across all 5 dimensions, and, more useful than either, your weakest area with one specific next step for it. Not a reading list. One step.
The assessment takes about 4 minutes. No email address, no sign-up. If you are asking a slightly different question, whether you should become a manager at all, that is a different assessment: Am I Ready to Be a Manager? covers the before-the-promotion version. This one assumes you already have the job.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I am a good manager?
Look at observable signals, not feelings. Bad news reaches good managers early, while there is still time to act. Their people can name the team's top priority without checking. Work and decisions genuinely leave their desk. And someone on the team is visibly more capable than six months ago. If you cannot verify those four things, that is what this assessment is for.
What are the signs of a bad manager?
The reliable ones are structural, not personal: people find out about changed priorities mid-task, feedback only arrives at review time, every decision routes through one desk, surprises surface late, and the same person gets every opportunity. Notice that being unfriendly is not on the list. Most damage is done by pleasant managers avoiding uncomfortable work.

How is this different from other manager quizzes?
Most manager quizzes end with a compliment. This one ends with a diagnosis: your weakest of the 5 dimensions, and one specific next step for it, drawn from a library of 90+ in-depth guides, 19 assessments, and 48 free calculators built for first-time managers. The quiz is the front door, not the whole house.
This is a self-reflection tool built around observable management behaviors. It is not a psychometric instrument and not a substitute for real feedback from your team and your manager. Use the results as a prompt, not a verdict.
